The inspiration for Faber House came from the client's two foremost considerations: family and friends. The client envisioned a place where loved ones could gather, creating a warm hearth around which family life could revolve. To fulfill this vision, the architects designed a home that could grow with the young family, incorporating numerous features that make it ideal for socializing.
Faber House stands out due to its unique properties. It features two rectangular volumes stacked atop one another, forming the core of the residence. A sand-coloured wood panel façade lines the entrance foyer, separating the stone-lined driveway from the lap pool. The home is also highlighted by an intricate metal façade of retractable screens, which shield the upper floor bedrooms from sunlight and heat.
The residence was realized using zircon wood and an intricate system of retractable glass windows. These windows provide versatility to the living area, transforming it from open-air to glass enclosed. A sculptural staircase occupies the double volume space, segregating the common areas from the private quarters on the top floor.
Despite the challenges of balancing the practical demands of the client, infusing stylistic themes into the residence, and preserving gardens, the design team managed to create a home that not only caters to the client's privacy but also controls internal ambient temperatures and introduces light and shadow interplay among the lush environment.
Faber House began in 2014 in Singapore and was completed in 2016. The project was awarded the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2018, a testament to the marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creation that reflects the designers' prodigy and wisdom.
